Product Description
Do you dare step through the red door?

Spencer Grant had no idea what drew him to the bar with the red door. He thought he would just sit down, have a slow beer or two, and talk to a stranger. He couldn't know that it would lead to a narrow escape from a bungalow targeted by a SWAT team. Or that it would leave him a wanted man. Now he is on the run from mysterious and ruthless men. He is in love with a woman he knows next to nothing about. And he is hiding from a past he can't fully remember. On his trail is a shadowy security agency that answers to no one--including the U.S. government—and a man who considers himself a compassionate Angel of Death. But worst of all, Spencer Grant is on a collision course with inner demons he thought he'd buried years ago—inner demons that could destroy him if his enemies don't first.

Dark Rivers of the Heart is a page turning thriller involving sociopaths with unlimited power and means to perform deeds. A man and a woman on the run confront the evil of their pasts as they lead their pursuers on chases. The hunter becomes the prey in this novel that explores the twisted minds of the most evil people. This definitely ranks near the top of Koontz' early novels and on par with good suspense novels.

A page turner for sure.

I read this book a while ago, but it was one of the most interesting and insightful books I have ever read. The story is fiction but what happens and how a average person can be railroaded by government bureaucracy that gets out of hand is very real. Its a good read. It can and does happen.

Koontz was in full-fledged paranoid rant when he wrote this book back in the mid-90s. Everything from Waco to Ruby Ridge to black helicopters make cameos in this "innocent man on the run from nameless government agency"-themed book. It's a lot like Sole Survivor but without the metaphysical edge.

I would actually have given Dark Rivers only one star (a first for my review of Koontz books) but Dean comes up with a really creative serial killer that bumps the book up in my estimation. Like I mention in one of my other reviews, Koontz is awfully hard on artists in the plastic arts, and he continues that tradition in this book.

Libraries specializing in thrillers and dramas will relish this involving account.

Anthony Heald's extensive background in film lends a smooth and dramatic edge to DARK RIVERS OF THE HEART, a thriller revolving around one Spencer Grant, who is drawn to a bar only to find that a casual foray would lead to a narrow escape leaving him a wanted man on the run from unknown assailants - and in love with a stranger. Swift action, espionage and high drama makes for an audio hard to turn off, even more compelling in audio than in book format. Libraries specializing in thrillers and dramas will relish this involving account.
